The city of Kladno has entered the Covenant of Mayors for Sustainable Energy and Climate (Pact). The international community is moving towards a minimum carbon footprint and intends to build cities into a resilient environment with a nature-friendly energy policy by 2050.

Joining the ambitious initiative is another step forward in the path of achieving a higher climate protection incl. reduction of the emissions and increasing energy savings. The crucial moments were, more or less two – entering the prestigious international SPARCS project and finalization of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), which is a precondition for joining the Pact. It pledged, among other things, various measures to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by at least 40 % by 2030 compared to 2019 and to increase the city’s resilience to the effects of climate change.

The city intends to achieve the main goal of the Pact by saving energy, installing the technology for higher use of renewable energy, in particular in buildings, transport, heating and public lighting, as well as by appropriate adaptation measures.

Almost 10,700 municipalities from the European Union are currently involved in the Pact, with more than 324 million people living there. More information at www.paktstarostuaprimatoru.eu.
