The Municipality of Maia has received a “Seal of Good Practices” within the 7th Edition of the initiative “Portugal Participa – Mucipilaty Network for Citizen Participation” with the “Participatory Process of the 2nd Revision of the Municipal Land Use Plan of Maia”.

This process, carried out between January 2019 and December 2020, had the main objective of ensuring that its development was held in a context of broad public participation and involvement.

The innovative nature of this process corresponds to the creation of a flexible methodology applicable to different social contexts, The implemented participatory methodology is based on the principles of participation in territorial planning, contributing to collect locally specific information to avoid conflicts, and these benefits only become possible through practices that encourage the involvement of citizens in all stages of the process, from definition of the agenda, definition of objectives, construction of the diagnosis and establishment of proposals for action.

The initiative “Portugal Participa” aims to establish itself as an incentive for the implementation, dissemination and enhancement of innovative projects of participatory democracy developed in Portugal.
