Energy Advanced Energy Systems

A new book titled “Advanced Energy Systems in Zero/Positive Energy Buildings, Communities, and Districts” sheds light on crucial concepts, fundamentals, and definitions with regards to zero and positive energy structures. Edited by Ala Hasan and Hassam Ur Rehman, the book delves deep into the impact of these energy-efficient structures on built communities, offering insights into various facets including energy efficiency, HVAC systems, energy storage, renewable energy integration, and controls.

Published by MDPI Books as an open-access resource, this comprehensive guide is a vital tool for experts and researchers interested in exploring and disseminating research on advanced energy systems. It particularly aligns with the SPARCS’ objectives of transforming urban areas into smart and sustainable communities.

The book is also part of the International Energy Agency Energy in Buildings and Communities Programme (IEA EBC) Annex 83 Positive Energy Districts (PED) project, in which SPARCS is an active participant. Annex 83, operational from 2020 to 2024, aims to define positive energy districts and develop the necessary technologies and planning tools for their implementation. SPARCS contributes valuable experience and data from demonstration cases to this collaborative effort.

Disseminating SPARCS information

Moreover, the book serves as a conduit for disseminating information about the SPARCS project, As does the publication “Lessons Learned from Positive Energy District (PED) Projects: Cataloguing and Analysing Technology Solutions in Different Geographical Areas in Europe.” Co-authored by representatives of SPARCS coordinator VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd., this publication showcases the lessons learned from various positive energy district projects across Europe.

By providing a platform to explore synergies and connect different smart cities and positive energy district projects internationally, the book aligns with SPARCS’ commitment to drive innovation and sustainability in urban development. As SPARCS continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering energy-efficient communities, this publication stands as a testament to the project’s dedication to advancing knowledge and solutions in the field of advanced energy systems.
