The city of Kladno proposed two of its projects in a competition called Smart Cities for the Future 2020. An Energy Positive District model (PED) designed within the international SPARCS project was the first one, and realization of the Smart City platform INVIPO was another one. And it was the Smart City platform, which operates with the data from various urban systems, that won in its category.
The results of the competition were officially announced on 11 December 2020 via an online broadcast. More than 180 projects from all over the country took part in the competition and its categories. The city of Kladno won with the Smart City in the category of cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
Kladno started testing "smart" solutions for public administration in 2018. Two stages of the pilot project Smart city Kladno and the project of transport telematics were completed. For example, the city has built sensors into parking spaces that send information about the occupancy of parking spaces to the platform. Smart sensors also monitor the filling of the nests of underground waste containers.
The city is also testing the technology, which is thanks to sensors built into waste collection trucks, able to identify potholes on the roads, or the connection of the winter maintenance control room with the city's geoportal. The platform also includes smart bus stops, equipped with electronic markers and LED boards which also provide the public with information on-line numbers and destination stations, the current time. Transport telematics also brings other benefits to the public, such as free internet access at some public transport stations.
Platforma and data might have a very positive impact on citizens since they are practical, useful, and interpreted in clear form.
The committee which was assessing the projects also appreciated the vision of Kladno for the Energy Positive District prepared within the international project SPARCS. Due to the early stage of the design, the proposal ended just before the gates of the final. One of the connecting links in this area is, among other things, the intelligent software for energy management in the city's buildings, which is now implemented. In the future, Kladno is considering involving also other areas, such as smart communication with traffic lights or bicycles sharing
